The Hope Behind the Vows

March 9, 2024

In 2022, 4.6 million people got married in the U.S. $50 billion was spent on the ceremonies alone.

Despite $3-400 million spent on couples therapy every year, roughly 52% of these marriages will end in divorce (costing $14.5 billion per year), and another 20-25% will only stay together for financial reasons or 'for the kids.'

So, at least 70% of couples who get married will never get what they hope for from their marriage. This is dismal. Sorry.

Yet hope lives.

86% of divorcees will remarry within five years.

83% of Gen Z and Millennials expect to get married at some point.

Why? Why do we get married?

Why do we celebrate engagements and weddings when it so rarely works?
